If you're using Hermann Hesse's novel 'Siddhartha' in your class, then you may need some study guide questions. This lesson offers specific questions on plot and character as well as questions dealing with themes, symbols, and motifs.

Siddhartha is a slim novel that tells the story of one man's quest for enlightenment in India around 600 BC. The title character goes from privileged child, to ascetic monk, to shrewd businessman, and eventually, after learning lessons about love, friendship and one's place in the world, to a state of enlightenment as a simple ferryman by a river. Use the study guide questions below to help guide your students through this literary journey, whether they need help with the basics of plot and character, or they are ready to tackle some of the book's larger ideas.
