Social justice, or treating people fairly based on socioeconomic and cultural factors, connects to the political, religious, economic and social aspects of society. Use this guide to discuss social justice with your high school students.

The Importance of Social Justice

From the news coverage, to the elections of the 21st century, many people are rightfully concerned with the idea of social justice. Social justice, which describes the fair treatment of all people regardless of wealth, status, gender, or race, connects to most other aspects of society. Discussions on social justice lend themselves to the English and history curricula as it can connect to a variety of historical, political, and novel topics.

This guide is divided into two parts. In the first section, you will find discussion questions on the basic ideas of social justice. These questions can be used after students have an understanding of what social justice is. The second set of questions can be applied to a specific topic within the field of social justice. These questions should be used after students have researched a topic. For example, you could apply questions in the second section to an issue like the Syrian refugee crisis.
