Social Stories on Kissing

Instructor: Clio Stearns

Clio has taught education courses at the college level and has a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction.

Kissing can be a complicated phenomenon for students to understand. The social stories in this lesson teach students what kissing is, how it can feel, and when it is and is not appropriate.

Using Social Stories

A social story is an example of language that you can offer a student to explicitly unpack a complicated or stressful situation with clear vocabulary, descriptions of feelings, and strategies for coping. Social stories are most often helpful for students with autistic spectrum disorders, speech and language delays, or struggles with social, emotional and physical development and regulation. This lesson offers social stories that teach kids about the topic of kissing.

Kissing in Families

I come from a wonderful family. My family is made of people who love me. My mom is in my family. My dad is in my family. My two brothers are in my family, and my grandparents and aunts are in my family. I know that the people in my family love me because they tell me that a lot. I also know they love me because they show it in other ways, by doing nice things for me, smiling in special ways at me, hugging me and kissing me.
