Solving Problems with Money Lesson Plan

Solving word problems presents a challenge for some students, but incorporating real-world applications often makes learning easier and fun. In this lesson, students will watch a video, answer discuss questions, complete an activity and take a quiz.

Learning Objectives

After this lesson students will be able to:

  • identify the five steps in solving problems involving money
  • apply real-world applications
  • solve word problems related to money

Length

60 minutes (optional extension 30 minutes)

Curriculum Standards

  • CCSS.Math.Content.HSA.REI.A.1

Explain each step in solving a simple equation as following from the equality of numbers asserted at the previous step, starting from the assumption that the original equation has a solution. Construct a viable argument to justify a solution method.

  • CCSS.Math.Content.HSA.REI.A.2

Solve simple rational and radical equations in one variable, and give examples showing how extraneous solutions may arise.
