It's summer! Time for a long, lazy vacation at the beach. In this lesson, you'll learn how to say you're going on vacation and you'll learn related vocabulary words like swimsuit, sunglasses, and sandals.

Las Vacaciones

La playa! Voy de vacaciones a la playa! A ver… Tengo que hacer la maleta. Pantalones cortos. Una camiseta, sí. Las sandalias! Claro. Un vestido y otro... y otro? A ver… me lo pongo. No, no me gusta. Me lo quito. Sí! El vestido verde! Me gusta. Una falda, una blusa, un bañador, ropa interior - muy importante! Una bolsa. Y qué más? Hmmm… gafas de sol! A ver… me las pongo. Son muy importantes para la playa! Y una gorra también, para el sol. Me la pongo. Y si no hace sol? Si llueve? Un impermeable. Por si acaso. Me lo pongo también. Gafas de sol con un impermeable? No creo. Me los quito. Ya! Es todo. Voy a la playa!

(Translation: The beach! I'm going to the beach! Let's see... I have to pack my suitcase. Shorts. A t-shirt, yes. Sandals! Of course. A dress and another... and another? Let's see... I'll put it on. No, I don't like it. I'll take it off. Yes! The green dress! I like it. A skirt, a blouse, a swimsuit, underwear - very important! A purse. And what else? Hmmm... sunglasses! Let's see... I'll put them on. These are very important for the beach! And a baseball cap, too, for the sun. I'll put it on. And if it isn't sunny? If it rains? A raincoat. Just in case. I'll put it on, too. Sunglasses with a raincoat? I don't think so. I'll take it off. Now! That's everything. I'm going to the beach!)

Lesson Summary

Bueno, here's a list of today's words. Let's say them one more time and see if there are some ways to remember them. Remember to hit all the vowels:

La blusa (lah BLOO-sah) means blouse. This is a cognate. Almost just like blouse.

La camiseta (lah kah-mee-SEH-tah) means t-shirt. Do you remember the word for shirt? Camisa? Camiseta is its relative.
