If your students are interested in astronomy, you might want to introduce them to stargazing. This lesson offers some hands-on activities that will teach students more about the night sky and what they can do to appreciate it.

Learning About Stargazing

Are your students curious about the night sky? They might be studying astronomy from a scientific perspective, or they might be reading poetry about the moon and stars. No matter what is motivating it, an interest in the sky is an important start to a study of outer space. One way to capitalize on this interest is to involve students in stargazing.

Put simply, stargazing really is what it sounds like: gazing up at the stars! Yet there is also more to it than that, because stargazing can involve understanding and labeling what you see in the night sky and making sense of telescopes and star charts. The activities in this lesson will appeal to different learning styles while helping your students become expert stargazers. The activities also take into account the fact that you may not be able to observe the night sky alongside your students; each of these activities can be accomplished within the confines of the classroom.

Visual Activities

Stargazing is generally very visual, and these activities will help your visual learners get even more out of stargazing.
