The internet and the progression of technology gives online entrepreneurs several marketing strategies.

Once upon a time in a faraway land, there was only one way to start a business and that was through brick and mortar. A brick and mortar business is a term that refers to a business that has a physical location with a physical building, such as a grocery store, a gym, or a mall.

The evolution of time has provided entrepreneurs with a major weapon to combat the issues that come with starting a successful business and that is none other than the World Wide Web. But just how can you go about setting up an internet business? Let's take a look at a few strategies and factors which will help entrepreneurs looking to start and produce a successful internet business.


Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a useful tool for helping with online business startups.

When in the beginning stages of planning for an internet business, perhaps the most important step is trying to determine exactly how customers will know your business exists. How will customers be alerted to the presence of your business and its products and services? This is where SEO comes into play. SEO, known as Search Engine Optimization, is the application of procedures undertaken to make sure that your site becomes visible to those trafficking the internet.

Typically, the higher the rank on a search results page, then the better your chances are of customers or visitors perusing the web to visit your site. SEO does a lot of behind-the-scenes work to ensure that your site becomes visible to those visitors seeking your specific product or service.

One of the primary ways to ensure that SEO works for you when starting your internet business is to use strategic key words. Keywords are those select words which help people to locate your site when using search engines. Google is currently one of the most popular web-search engines on the market today.

Let's say that you are using Google to find cupcakes that look like different animals. That particular company should have used keywords such as cupcakes or animal-shaped sweets perhaps. These words will increase the likelihood for the site to be found if that is what you are specifically looking for.

Quality Content

In today's business market, it is imperative that a site have quality content to complement products and services. The site alone is like having a hot dog without the ketchup, mustard, or pickles (or onions if that's your thing). For your startup internet business to be successful, it must be alluring to visitors and that all begins with exceptional and varied content. The content on your website can consist of the following:

  • Text: The wording placed on your website is important because it reflects your products or services. The text, along with as its presentation, has everything to do with how well your content is perceived and understood by visitors. The text should be readable by all with appropriate font sizes.
  • Video: Video strongly supports the quality of the website content. The video has the ability to illustrate things such as how your product or service works as well as allowing site visitors to witness testimonies from people that have actually used the products or services. Many internet startups are able to better relate their business to visitors because they can see the how the product works in a video.
  • Graphics: The graphics on your website also help as a part of providing quality content to attract visitors to your site. Similar to a paper flyer, the graphics are responsible for gathering the attention of the site visitors. The intention is for the graphics to attract the visitors, which provides more opportunities for the visitor to purchase a product or service
