Technology Projects for Middle School

Technology is central to modern life. Whether it's computers, smart phones, and dishwashers, or more basic technologies like wheels and door knobs, you can find it everywhere. Our understanding of technology therefore has a significant impact on the way we approach and understand the world. In learning about technology, we can involve our students and projects that will keep them active and engaged. Try out a few of these fun ideas for middle school technology projects.

Pinhole Camera Project

This classic technology project involves having students build a pinhole camera. This will give students an idea of how basic cameras work. Advanced camera technology is really little more than a variation on a theme. Making such a camera is pretty simple. It just requires a cardboard or wood box, something to make a pinhole, white paper to make a screen, and black paper or felt to cover the inside walls of the box. There are dozens of tutorials explaining how to create a pinhole camera available on the web, with slight variations in design and difficulty.
