These days, millions of people live in the western United States. But, do you know how and why people originally settled there? In this lesson, we will look at the settlement of the American West.

Learning Objectives

By the conclusion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • explain the reasons Americans moved and settled in the West
  • write a journal from the perspective of a settler


50-60 minutes (with group presentations taking place on a different day)
