The Call of the Wild Lesson Plan

Give students the opportunity to refine their comprehension of Jack London's 'A Call of the Wild' with this lesson. A text lesson and a video lesson provide key points on the story and an activity allows students the opportunity for revision. Optional activities and lesson are included for further study, if needed.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • summarize key events in The Call of the Wild
  • analyze characters, themes, and conflict in The Call of the Wild

Analyze how an author's choices concerning how to structure a text, order events within it (e.g., parallel plots), and manipulate time (e.g., pacing, flashbacks) create such effects as mystery, tension, or surprise.
