  • When Ponyboy broke the news at home, how did the Greasers respond? Use quotes from the chapter in your explanation.
  • What did Johnny leave for Ponyboy in the event of his death? Why did Johnny like to keep it a secret from the other Greasers?
  • How did Dally handle his sadness of Johnny's death in the beginning of the chapter? What crime did he commit?
  • As Dally left the crime scene who did he call? Afterwards, he was cornered by cops and they shot him. Why? Do you think Dally's actions were intentional? Explain. Why did Ponyboy say that Dally wanted to be dead? Do you believe him? Why or why not?
  • Ponyboy blacked out after he saw Dally get shot. Use specific language to explain the scene. What was he diagnosed with shortly afterwards? When and how did this medical condition occur? How long was he asleep before he woke up? Did they take him to the hospital? Explain.
  • When Ponyboy was out of it, he was concerned if he asked for Darry. Why?
