Pre-Reading Questions

Before the students begin the book, have them consider the following questions:

  • How do we judge others in ways that can deeply impact them negatively?
  • How do societal influences affect decisions that people make?
  • How are people ''punished'' in today's world for not following societal norms?

Post-Reading Questions

After the students have read The Scarlet Letter, use the questions below to help them dig deeper into the meaning of the book and the characters.
