Trick or Treating Safety Lesson Plan

Instructor: Mary Beth Burns

Mary Beth has taught 1st, 4th and 5th grade and has a specialist degree in Educational Leadership. She is currently an assistant principal.

In this lesson plan, students will learn how to trick or treat safely. After a discussion about the dos and don'ts of trick or treating, students will work together to create a public service announcement about a trick or treating safety tip.

With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers.

Materials

  • Red construction paper cut into fourths, one piece per student
  • Green construction paper cut into fourths, one piece per student
  • Index cards with the following written on them:
    • Wear a costume that fits
    • Wear a costume that you might trip on
    • Wear a glow stick or carry a flashlight
    • Have an adult check your candy before you eat it
    • Accept candy that is unwrapped or has been opened
    • Trick or treat with an adult
    • Go inside a stranger's house without an adult
    • Walk on the sidewalk
    • Walk down the middle of the street
    • Look both ways before you cross the street
    • Trick or treat by yourself
  • Poster board
  • Markers
  • Notebook paper
  • Photograph of trick or treaters
