In chapter six of ''Tuck Everlasting'' by Natalie Babbitt, Winnie is shocked when soon after meeting Jesse Tuck, his brother and mother show up to kidnap her. Winnie wonders if she will ever see her family again.

Meeting the Tuck Family

At this point in the story, Winnie Foster, the protagonist, is defying her parents by exploring the wood near her house for the very first time. She is looking for the source of music that comes from the wood, which her grandmother claims is from elves. Along the way, she meets Jesse Tuck. Winnie wants to drink water from beneath the pebbles as she saw Jesse do, but Jesse's mother, Mae, and brother, Miles arrive in time to stop her. Let's find out what happens in chapter six of Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt.

Kidnapped

How would you react if strangers grabbed you and tried to take you away from your home? At the beginning of chapter six, Winnie is shocked to find herself on top of a horse being led deeper into the wood by the Tuck family. The strange thing is, they seem as upset as Winnie. Mae tuck is pleading with Winnie, 'Please, child . . . dear, dear child . . . don't you be scared.' A million thoughts run through Winnie's mind as she considers her options. Winnie is surprised that they walk right past a stranger who had spoken to Winnie the night before while she was playing in her yard, but she is too shocked to speak up and ask for help.

Winnie Wants to Go Home

Realizing that she is unsure whether or not she will see her mother again, Winnie begins to cry. Mae tries to reassure her, promising that they will not hurt her and that they will return her to her mother the next day. This only makes Winnie cry harder as tomorrow seems terribly far away. 'We're not bad people, truly we're not. We had to bring you away--you'll see why in a minute--and we'll take you back just as soon as we can,' begs Mae.
