Instructor: Sharon Linde

Sharon has a Masters of Science in Mathematics

Trying to teach your students two-point perspective? Use this lesson plan to explain what it is and step students through the process of drawing with two-point perspective. Explicit directions are given for students to follow.

Learning Objectives

After this lesson, students will be able to:

  • explain and define 'two-point perspective'
  • draw an image with two-point perspective

Length

1 hour

Materials

Curriculum Standards

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RST.6-8.3

Follow precisely a multistep procedure when carrying out experiments, taking measurements, or performing technical tasks.

Instructions

  • Show students a few images using two-point perspective and ask them to observe for a few minutes. Guide students to identify and analyze the use of two-point perspective and discuss the differing purposes in each image.
  • Tell students they will be learning how to draw using two-point perspective and allow them to share prior knowledge.
  • Now display the video lesson Two-Point Perspective Drawing: Definition & Examples and have students watch the first section 'What is Two-Point Perspective?' Ask:
    • What is two-point perspective in your own words?
    • When do artists use two-point perspective?
  • The next section, 'Creating Two-Point Perspective,' walks students through a drawing using two-point perspective. Use this section to go at a pace appropriate for your students to find success. You may consider dividing students into groups and allowing some groups to go at their own pace, or allowing individual students to work freely. Or you may want to do the lesson together with all students, reading one direction at a time and allowing students to follow along as you support and check their progress.
