Teachers, this lesson goes beyond writing and coloring the names of the continents and bodies of water on a world map. Students will enjoy these fun and engaging activities while learning at the same time.

Identifying and learning about the seven continents and four major bodies of water on a world map can be a daunting task. The activities below help students recognize and recall each major part of the world map.

Feel the World in Felt!

Students will enjoy tracing and cutting out parts of the world map in felt, then reconstructing the map on poster board.


  • Different colors of 8 ½ x 11 sheets of felt
  • Scissors
  • Black marker
  • Crayons
  • Poster board
  • Glue sticks
  • Computers with internet connectivity and printer capabilities
