Writing a Personal Essay Lesson Plan

Use this lesson plan for a unit on writing a personal essay, such as for school or job applications. With this plan, you can guide your class through a video lesson, present discussion questions, and reinforce the material with a personal essay writing activity.

Learning Objectives

After this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Identify and define the characteristics of a personal essay
  • Complete all the pre-writing steps to writing an essay, including brainstorming, graphic organizers, outlines, and supporting details
  • Develop a plan for a strong personal essay
  • Create a well-developed personal essay
