Zookeeper Lesson Plan for Elementary School

With this lesson plan, your students are going to explore the career of a zookeeper. They will put themselves in a zookeeper's shoes by researching a zoo animal and preparing a presentation on how to care for it.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Describe some of the duties, responsibilities, and concerns of zookeepers
  • Understand the link between animal behavior and zoo design
  • Report on specific animals commonly found in zoos

Materials

  • Paper, colored pencils/markers
  • Strips of paper with different zoo animals written on them
  • Internet access or books on common zoo animals
