Eighth grade is the last time you'll call yourself a middle school student. Use the writing prompts here to reflect on your life up to this point and the world around you, and check out some other helpful writing resources as well.

What Can I Write About?

For your last year of primary school, try to tackle new writing topics you haven't explored yet. Take a look at these writing prompts as you prepare yourself for life after eighth grade:

  • Definition of Success: How would you measure success? Have you done anything up to this point that would be considered truly successful so far in life? What kinds of success will you strive for in the future?
  • Preparing for High School: Moving from eighth to ninth grade is a massive undertaking, and your responsibilities and even social life will see huge changes. What are you doing to get yourself ready for it? How do you personally feel about the transition, and what are you looking forward to seeing once high school begins?
  • Technology Reduction: Eighth graders today have never lived in a world without constant access to the internet, smartphones and GPS. Consider how you'd feel if you were born twenty or even ten years earlier. How would your life differ from the always-online society of today? How would it affect your relationships with friends and family?
  • Celebrity and Athlete Salaries: Some of the richest people in the world are those we pay to see and/or watch in person and on screen. How do you feel about the amount of money these people take home? What should change about our treatment of them, if anything?
  • Think About the Future: If you could accomplish three things in the next ten years, what would they be? Whether you want to see the pyramids in Egypt or learn how to pilot airplanes, write down your three dream accomplishments and explain their meaning for you.
