Preparing for Accuplacer Test Day
Being properly prepared can have a positive impact on your Accuplacer test performance. There are some specific things you can do both before and on your Accuplacer test day to ensure that you are ready to take the test.
Know What You Need
Accuplacer tests are offered at universities, colleges and high schools. Each location may have specific guidelines about what individuals should bring on their test day. One common required item is photo ID, although this may not be needed for students taking the test at their high school. To ensure you know what you need to bring, contact the school where you will be taking your Accuplacer test.
Know What You Don't Need
Some schools prohibit certain items from the test site, such as cell phones. It is important to check with the school where you will take your Accuplacer test to find out if there are things you are not allowed to have at the test site.
Know If You Need Special Arrangements
Accommodations may be offered to individuals who need a modified test or testing format when taking the Accuplacer. It's common for individuals with disabilities and medical conditions to qualify for these test adjustments.
To determine if you may be eligible for accommodations, you should check with the school that is hosting your Accuplacer test and go through its application process well in advance so that your accommodations are approved by test day.
Know When to Be There and Where You're Going
Make sure you get directions to your test site before test day and, if possible, travel there so that you can see how long it takes. In some cases, you may have the option of dropping in to take the test unscheduled, but if you scheduled a test time, be sure that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment so that you have time to check in.
Know How to Take the Test
Test-takers receive points for every question they get right. The difficulty of test questions also changes based on how well a person is doing on the test. If you don't know an answer, take your best guess so that you answer every question and move on to other questions you may be able to answer more confidently.
Know What's on the Test
The Accuplacer website outlines the content of both the Classic and Next-Generation Accuplacer tests. It is important to review the outline for the test you are taking so that you have a clear understanding of what skills and knowledge you will need to demonstrate to do well on the Accuplacer tests.
