Algebra Battleship

This game builds on the knowledge most students already have about the game Battleship. It's played with graph paper and helps kids practice calculating slope. Students guess the location of each other's ships, just as in the original game, but must then calculate how to hit their opponents by calculating the distance from their turret to wherever they located the enemy ship.

Math Duel

Split the class into two teams. Divide your chalkboard or whiteboard in half so that each team has space to work out problems, and to keep track of their scores. Two students, one from each team, go to the board at the same time, and then you ask an algebra question. The student that answers correctly first gets a point for their team. Keep playing until a team reaches a predetermined score.

Online Games

You can also find computer games online that deal with algebra problems. Online games allow your students to get algebra practice either in class or at home, using a computer or their favorite mobile device. Check out the large variety of algebra games on the Math Play and Math Playground sites.
