Anti-Bullying Resources for Kids

Instructor: Carrie Soucy
Do you know what to do when you or one of your friends is being bullied? These websites, videos, games and lessons will help you learn more about bullying and what you can do to stop it.

Stopbullying.gov Website

On the Stopbullying.gov website (stopbullying.gov/kids), you can watch an animated video series about the kids at Springdale Middle School. As you watch the webisodes, you'll get to know a few of Springdale's bullies and the kids who stand up to them as well as their parents, teachers and coaches. The series begins with 12-year-old Katie Blue's first day at Springdale, where she starts getting picked on by Cassandra, one of the mean girls at school. Throughout the series, you'll see how she and her new friends deal with Cassandra and other bullies.

The website also has crossword puzzles and games featuring the Springdale crew, along with tip sheets to help you identify bullying and know how to react when you or one of your classmates is being bullied.

PACER Center's Kids Against Bullying Website

On the Kids Against Bullying website (pacerkidsagainstbullying.org), you'll meet the Club Crew. These cartoon characters include bullies, kids who are being bullied and kids who stand up to bullying. You'll hear their stories and be able to ask Carmen - one of the characters - any questions you have. You can also watch a video that shows real kids your age talking about bullying and share your own stories.

If you aren't sure whether you're being bullied or acting like a bully, you can take quizzes and get advice. Finally, you can officially become a Kid Against Bullying by signing an online anti-bullying petition.

PACER Center's Book Club

Do you love to read? Visit this online book club (pacer.org) to discover fun and interesting books about kids (and animals!) who overcome bullying.

PBS Kids 'It's My Life' Website

On the It's My Life Website (pbskids.org/itsmylife), you'll learn what bullying means, take a look at the different types of bullying and find out how to handle bullies. You can also measure your anti-bullying I.Q. by playing the Beat the Bully video game. In this game, set in the year 2248, you'll compete with a bully in a rocket race. The only way you can beat him is by showing what you've learned about bullying.

Anti-Bullying Games and Apps for Kids

Do you like playing games on a computer, phone or tablet? There are several games and apps that are not only fun to play, but also improve your anti-bullying skills. A few of these are:

  • Herotopia, a free online game you can play on any computer
  • If…The Emotional IQ Game, an adventure quest game that you can download on an iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone
  • Spirits of Spring, a game for iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone devices in which you'll progress through a magical world by beating challenges and figuring out puzzles
