Applicant Requirements for the QTS Numeracy Skills Test

Instructor: Bill Sands
Prospective candidates for the QTS Numeracy Skills test will first need to make sure they are eligible to sit for the exam. Keep reading for a list of the materials applicants will need in order to take this test.

QTS Applicant Requirements

The QTS Numeracy Skills test is one of two exams applicants must pass in order to begin coursework for a teacher training program in the UK.

Before sitting for this exam, you'll need to make sure that you are able to satisfy all registration and test center admission requirements, which include providing sufficient proof of your identity.

Registration

In order to simplify and facilitate the registration process, the Department for Education uses a delivery partner known as learndirect.

Booking your first test attempt through this organization is completely free. During the online registration process, you'll be able to choose your test date and site.

Identification

You'll need to bring two forms of ID with you to the test center. The details on these IDs must be an exact match for the information you provided when you registered. In the event that there is a discrepancy, you may be forbidden from sitting for the exam.

Primary ID

Your primary ID must feature a photograph and signature in addition to your name. Examples of acceptable IDs include passports, an EU driver's license or national identity card. If you're a current student, you can also use your UK student ID or union card.

If you do not possess one of the above IDs, you can also download and fill out an alternative ID form prior to your test date. If you wish to use this option, you will need to also provide a passport-sized photograph.

Secondary ID

Requirements for secondary IDs are slightly less strict and can include anything that is valid and contains a signature and name. Examples of this include a bank card or military ID.

You may also use another item from the primary list as your secondary ID. For example, you can use your passport as your primary ID and your UK student card as a secondary ID, provided that both are still valid.

Evidence of ITT Applications

On test day, you'll also need to provide proof that you've applied to an initial teacher training program. This could entail bringing a copy of your finished application form, a written communication from an organization that confirms your application or a similar type of document.

Authentication

The QTS features a number of verification checks to confirm a candidate's identity and prevent fraud. In addition to meeting the above requirements, you must provide an electronic signature at the testing site. This electronic signature is then compared to the signatures found on the ID forms.

If you change your name at any time after the registration process, you will need to provide proof of this name change.
