Dates for the California Real Estate Exam
The California Department of Real Estate offers real estate exams to become a Broker or a Salesperson. Once you have completed all the requisite preparations for taking the exam, you will be able to apply for and schedule the exam. While the exam is offered continuously throughout the year, the exams are only available on certain dates each month at certain testing locations in the following cities:
- Los Angeles
- San Diego
Availability is based on demand. Some testing locations may have a test window almost daily, while others may only offer several per month. Keep in mind that testing sites can fill up fast, so it's a good idea to plan accordingly and give yourself ample time to register.
How to Schedule the Exam
The best and most efficient way to schedule the real estate exam is online at www.dre.ca.gov with the eLicensing online system. Before you are able to use the eLicensing online system to schedule your exam, you must have received an approved letter via mail stating that your application has been processed.
Key information for candidates can be found on the California Department Real Estate website. The Examinees tab provides information on 'How and Where Exams are Scheduled.' This page lists the five available cities where the real estate exams are offered. With the 'Check available exam dates' link you'll be able to select your preferred city and the type of exam you are taking: Broker or Salesperson.
After you select your choices, the website generates a list of current dates, times, and locations available for the exam. A nice feature about this list is that it shows how many applicants are scheduled and how many seats are available at a specific testing location for the exam. To schedule the exam, you will need to log in to the eLicensing online system. An added bonus for using the eLicensing online system is that candidates can now schedule for the exam online as late as 6:00 a.m. on the day of the exam.
Candidates unable to schedule the exam online may contact the California Department of Real Estate Public Information Line via phone at 1-877-373-4542.
Rescheduling Your Exam Date
In the event that you are not able to take the exam on your selected date or if you happen to miss the exam for any reason, you will then need to reschedule the exam using the eLicensing online system. If you are not able to complete this process online, you can mail your Examination Schedule Notice form with your fee directly to:
Department of Real Estate
P.O. Box 137001
Sacramento, CA 95813-7001
It's important to note that once you reschedule your exam, you will be removed from the original exam date and location. Avoid unnecessary fees and complications by following all protocols on the website for rescheduling the exam. Also, be sure to check the fees closely as they may vary.
