CSET Exam Dates

What are the CSET Test Dates?

There are California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) examinations for 39 subjects, plus the CSET Multiple Subjects test, most of which are available by appointment several times each year. The one exception is the American Sign Language test, which was offered one day in September of 2015, and won't be available again until spring of 2016. CSET exams that have year-round availability can be taken between Monday and Saturday, except for when any of those days fall on particular holidays. Exams that are not offered throughout the year tend to be available during scattered four-week testing periods. For a complete list of CSET exams, please visit the official CTC website: http://www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/PageView.aspx?f=GEN_Tests.html

CSET Test Date Windows

The CSET Business, Agriculture, Home Economics, Industrial and Technology Education, Physical Education, Preliminary Educational Technology, Health Science, Art and Music tests are available during a number of four-week testing periods each year.

Most of the world languages exams feature multiple subtests; Subtest IV is available throughout the year, and the remaining subtests have designated testing windows. World languages exams that do not have multiple subtests include the CSET Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese and Turkish tests, which have four-week windows during which they're available.

Testing fees vary by subject, and most sub-tests cost between $69 and $134. For more information about how to register for the CSET, read the article about CSET registration.

Arriving on Test Day

When you go to the test center for your CSET exam, you will need to ensure you have a photo ID with you. Requirements and restrictions differ depending on whether you are taking the computerized CSET or a paper version, and a full list of the differences is available on the CSET website.

Test results release dates vary by subject. For example, test results for the CSET Multiple Subjects test are typically available within 5 weeks of testing while test results for the CSET Science test are typically available within 7 weeks of testing.

Retaking CSET Exams

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) contracts with Pearson Education for the scoring of the CSET. If necessary, individuals may retake a CSET exam an unlimited number of times until they pass. The only stipulation is that examinees must wait a total of 45 days for a retake. However, Study.com's helpful CSET prep resources will help make sure that you only need to test once.

Study.com CSET Study Guides

Study.com offers many courses that are designed for you to pass a CSET test on your first attempt. These CSET study guides feature engaging video lessons, lesson transcripts, and practice quizzes and exams that help test takers meet subject matter competency. The courses can conveniently be completed with a smartphone or tablet when a computer isn't nearby.
