Finding Praxis Testing Centers

Locating a Testing Center

Praxis testing centers are available at Prometric centers, universities and other locations throughout the United States, as well as Prometric centers at various overseas sites. All locations offer computer-based testing for the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators and Subject Assessments exams. To find a local or international testing site, visit the Praxis Test Centers and Dates webpage and search for a testing center by your zip code or country.

Praxis Core Academic Skills and Subject Assessments Testing Dates

The three main components (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics) of the Praxis Core Academic Skills exam can be taken continuously throughout the year. If you need to sit for all three components, continuous testing for the Combined exam is also available.

To test for a particular subject, such as early childhood education, you can select from multiple testing windows available. On the Praxis Test Centers and Dates webpage, look for the Praxis Subject Assessments section and select your subject from the drop-down menu to find out the testing dates.

Praxis American Sign Language (ASL) and Braille Proficiency Testing Locations and Dates

The ASL test is conducted in an interview format where you'll be videotaped. Testing is available once a year at a designated location in Connecticut and Vermont/Massachusetts.

For braille testing, only the states of Mississippi, Virginia, Rhode Island, and West Virginia require this exam, so testing locations are limited to these states. The Braille Proficiency Assessment is offered approximately 2-5 times year. There are multiple testing sites available in each state, but not every site will be open for each test date.

Praxis Exam Registration

You may register for the Praxis exam online, by mail or via telephone, but there is a surcharge for the phone registration method. A Praxis account is required to register. Once you've created your account, you can register for your exam and pay the associated fee then print out your admission ticket.

There aren't any deadlines to register for the Core Academic Skills for Educators and Praxis Subject Assessments exams, but you'll need to make changes to your registration about 3 days before the exam date. The registration period for the ASL test is usually open 3 to 4 months prior to the test date, and the Braille Proficiency test has multiple registration deadlines.

Preparing for Test Day

Plan to arrive at the testing site at least 30 minutes before your appointment, since you won't be able to take the test if you arrive late. Bring your admission ticket and a valid ID that matches the name on your registration. Keep in mind that electronics like smartphones and recording devices aren't allowed in the test center.
