GED Registration Requirements and Forms for Underage Test Takers
Most states require students to be at least 18 in order to take the GED without needing additional documentation. Requirements for minor students planning to take the GED test vary by state, but you'll need to be at least 16 years old. Some states require underage students to fill out an age waiver or approval to test form. These forms generally ask for some personal info, including reasons for taking the test early, as well as a signature from a parent or guardian. You might also need to submit documents from your high school or educational program verifying your non-enrollment.
GED Registration and Scheduling
Registering for the GED takes place online or by phone. To register on the website, you'll begin by creating an online account and providing the following info:
- E-mail address
- Contact and residency information, including your address and phone number
- Legal identification, such as your social security number or military ID
- Information about any diagnosed disabilities, if you are seeking test accommodations
After you've set up an account, you'll be able to login and see the requirements needed to schedule an exam. Once you meet those requirements, you'll be notified that you can pick a date and schedule your test.
About the GED
The GED has four sections: Mathematical Reasoning, Science, Social Studies, and Reasoning through Language Arts. The cost of taking the test varies by state, but, as of October 2015, each subject cost about $30. Test-takers may pay for each section of the exam separately.
