If you're in need of a topic for a persuasive essay, you'll want something with depth that can be argued from multiple viewpoints. This article lists a few topics to help you get started in addition to resources you can use to organize and edit your work.

Free Tuition

College tuition is one of the most expensive investments a young person can make. What would the consequences be if public universities started to offer free tuition? Would the benefits for students be enough to equal the cutbacks that might be necessary? What are some of the advantages charging for tuition can present? How would the lack of tuition income affect a school's faculty and administration?

Corporate Advertising

Imagine a school completely plastered with banners as well as monitors that run ads throughout the school day. What effect would this have on education? How could the income from advertising positively influence a school's budget, and where would the most prominent places be for advertising? Could advertising spill over into the athletic departments, and even onto team uniforms? What kinds of products would be off limits to advertising?

Cursive Handwriting

Think of the last time you were required to complete an assignment in cursive. Was it worth learning how to use this handwriting style? Should cursive be taught in grade school, or should it be eliminated completely since most students write papers with a word processor? What merit is there in learning cursive, and is it enough to justify dedicating class time so early in the academic careers of students?

Minimum Wage

The federal minimum wage is a hot-button issue with every election. What is your opinion on raising the dollar amount? How would businesses deal with having to pay employees more per hour? In what ways could this affect local economies, and would this motivate more people to seek employment?
