HESI A2 Nursing Exam Test Length
Individuals who apply to nursing programs may be required to take the Health Education Systems, Inc. Admissions Assessment (HESI A2) tests as part of the application process. There are a total of nine tests that make up the HESI A2, but the specific number of tests that an individual may be required to take and the time allotted to complete them can vary from school to school. Each college or university sets its own requirements.
Due to the fact that the specific exam requirements can vary significantly, it is important to check with the school where you will take your test to determine which parts of the HESI A2 you will take, how many questions you must answer and how much time you will receive.
Number of Tests Required
Many colleges and universities only require applicants to take some of the HESI A2 exams. Some schools may use as few as four of the tests while others may require individuals to complete eight or all nine exams. Commonly used tests include:
- Basic Math Skills
- Reading Comprehension
- Vocabulary and General Knowledge
Time Given to Complete the Tests
Typically, individuals receive four hours to complete the HESI A2 if they are testing at a Prometric test site. Some postsecondary institutions also allow students four hours to finish the exams, while others extend the time to five hours or more. There are even schools that do not impose any time limits.
Total Number of Questions
Due to the fact that different colleges have different testing requirements, the specific number of questions that a HESI A2 test-taker may be required to answer can vary significantly. This chart outlines the amount of time that Evolve recommends allowing for each of the HESI A2 tests and the total number of questions each HESI A2 test contains.
