Praxis Test Length
There are many different Praxis tests and the length of time for the Praxis tests vary. But how long is the Praxis exam you're going to take? In order to get a sense of the typical amount of time allotted for Praxis tests, let's explore some of the most common tests below.
Praxis Core Length
The Praxis I or Praxis Core is comprised of three subtests that are used to assess the basic skills of applicants. The Core Academic Skills for Educators: Reading and Core Academic Skills for Educators: Mathematics subtests both take 85 minutes and contain 56 questions.
The Core Academic Skills for Educators: Writing subtest is 100 minutes long with 40 minutes allotted for answering 40 selected-response questions. Applicants must also answer 2 essay questions and are given 30 minutes to respond to each one.
In total, the Praxis Core takes 270 minutes (4.5 hours). Applicants have the option of taking these subtests individually or all together.

Praxis Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) Test Length
The Praxis Principles of Learning and Teaching or PLT Praxis is comprised of 4 separate tests that are all 2 hours in length. These tests are designed to target the grade level the applicant plans to teach. Applicants can choose from the following:
All 4 PLT tests have a total of 74 questions, including 4 constructed-response questions. The rest of the questions are presented in selected-response format.
Grade-Level Praxis Tests
Some Praxis tests are specifically designed to qualify applicants to work with children in specific age or grade groups.
