Instructor: Shelby Golden
This article can help you get ready to pass the Series 7 exam. Find out how much time you should spend studying and learn about the options available to you as you prepare.

Plan Study Time

The Series 7 exam covers a lot of material, so you want to give yourself plenty of time to go over it. You might need to spend up to 240 hours preparing for this exam if you want to pass, so make sure you consider how much time you can devote to preparing every day. Once you come up with a plan, make sure you stick to it.

Focus on Important Topics

Because the Series 7 exam is an entry-level test, you don't want to get too in-depth with the subjects you study. Concentrate on preparing for the problems you're going to face on this test.

You should expect to be tested on your understanding of the job functions of registered representatives. These include establishing and pursuing business relationships with customers and prospective customers, evaluating customer information, opening accounts, transferring assets, keeping records, communicating with customers about investments, verifying purchases, entering orders and following up.

You'll also be tested on your understanding of the tasks associated with these job functions, as well as the knowledge required to perform these tasks. Finally, you should be prepared to answer questions that deal with the rules and regulations that form the foundation for these functions and tasks.

Be Ready on Test Day

You won't be allowed to bring anything with you when you test, but you will be provided with a 4-function calculator. Make sure you know how to operate this calculator before you begin your test, so you aren't spending time trying to figure it out when you could be answering questions.

Use Online Study Resources

You can find different online programs to help you go over the information that might appear on the Series 7 exam. Study.com offers several courses that focus on helping you review these concepts, so you're ready on test day. You can access study guides that deal with:
