Registering for Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) Tests
Individuals who are pursuing their teacher certification in Ohio are required to pass the appropriate Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) exams. In order to take their assessments, prospective educators will need to follow the registration process outlined below.
Step 1: Create a User Account
The OAE website has a link on its home page that you can use to set up your user account. This involves providing personal information, like your name and address.
Step 2: Log In and Register for a Test
Once you have a user account on the OAE website, you can log in and choose to register for the specific OAE exam that you need to take.
Step 3: Pay for Your Test
You can use a voucher to pay for your test when you register if you have one. Otherwise, you must use a credit or debit card that has the VISA or MasterCard logo on it. Check cards can also be used to pay test fees.
Step 4: Schedule Your Test
Once you have registered and paid, you are eligible to schedule your OAE test; however, there may be a few things you need to do first.
Locate Test Sites
The OAE website links to an app on the Pearson VUE website where you can insert information, such as a town name or street address, and find the closest test sites to that location. If you do not know where to take a test, you may want to use this app first to identify the best test sites for you.
Locate Available Test Dates
There's also an app for determining which test dates have space available. In order to find out this information, you need to be able to select the name of your test and up to three test sites where you can take it. The app will then provide you with available test dates and times for each selected test site.
Apply for Accommodations
Some individuals qualify to have their test or testing process adjusted to accommodate a specific need. The OAE website has a page explaining how to apply for alternate testing arrangements. You must collect the required documentation, fill out an application form and submit it before you schedule your OAE exam. If accommodations are approved, you will receive notification, typically within three weeks from your application date, and you will be given instructions for scheduling your exam date with the approved accommodations.
Step 5: Schedule Your Test
Log on to your account on the OAE website and select the option to schedule your exam date at your chosen location. Bear in mind that looking up space availability on the Pearson VUE app does not guarantee you will be able to take the test at that time. Spaces are not held for individuals until they finish scheduling their tests.
Once you have registered for your OAE exam and scheduled it, you will receive an email from Pearson VUE. The email will indicate what test you have scheduled and when and where you are taking it. You'll also be provided with the test site's phone number and address.
Changing Your Test Appointment
You can log on to your account on the OAE website and change your test time and/or location up to 24 hours prior to when you were scheduled to take the test for no fee.
You can also cancel your scheduled test time and submit a withdrawal request online after logging on to your account. Your test fees will be returned as long as you do this no less than 24 hours ahead of your appointment and within one calendar year of paying your test fees.
