Registering for the WEST-E Test
Washington Educator Skills Tests (WEST) are used by the Washington Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) to determine who is eligible to become a certified teacher in Washington. The registration process for these exams is outlined below.
Step 1: Identify Which Test You Need to Take
The WEST website provides a list of NES and WEST-E tests that are used to certify teachers. A list is also available on the state's Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) website. You should pick the test that fits the endorsement you are seeking. Some examples of WEST-E tests are listed here:
|Computer Science||Social Studies|
|Early Childhood Special Education||Dance|
|Family and Consumer Sciences Education||Health/Fitness|
|Special Education||Technology Education|
Step 2: Create an Account
The WEST website has an online account system that allows individuals pursuing teacher certification to register for their tests. You must provide personal information, such as your name and contact information. Once you have provided all the required information, you will have an active account.
Step 3: Register and Pay
You can log in and register for your WEST-E test through your online account. Payment for WEST tests can also be made online. Credit, debit and check cards are all accepted forms of payment.
Step 4: Schedule Exam
You must choose a date, time and location for your exam. There are apps accessible on the Pearson VUE website that allow you to locate test sites near you and to find out when there is space available to take your exam. Once you have identified your preferred available time and location, you need to log in to your registration account and follow the steps in the account system to schedule your exam.
If you have applied for accommodations, you must wait to schedule your exam until after your accommodations have been approved.
Once you have scheduled your test, you will receive a confirmation email from Pearson VUE. This email will contain all the pertinent information about your test, such as how to get to the test site and the time and date the test is scheduled for.
Changing Your Registration
If you need to change your scheduled test time, there are some simple steps you need to follow that vary based on whether or not you have had accommodations approved. Individuals with or without accommodations can change their testing appointments up to 24 hours before their exam without penalty.
Changing Scheduled Exams Without Accommodations
Individuals who do not have accommodations approved and need to change their test time, date or location can log on to their accounts and follow the steps to reschedule a test.
Changing Scheduled Exams With Accommodations
If test-takers have scheduled their exams with approved accommodations and need to change the time, date or location, they cannot make those changes through the online registration system. They must phone Pearson VUE directly. Pearson VUE business hours are on weekdays (excluding some holidays), so individuals need to plan ahead if they must change their test times.
