Kingsport, TN offers a variety of adult education alternatives, from GED coursework to degree completion programs to continuing education courses. Read on to learn more information about available courses and program options.

Kingsport Alliance for Continued Learning

In 1993, East Tennessee State University (ETSU) began a partnership with the Kingsport Alliance for Continued Learning (KACL) to offer classes specifically for adults with a variety of educational backgrounds who wish to expand their education. KACL holds classes at the ETSU Kingsport Allandale Campus and offers an informal classroom environment. Classes in each series are held once a week; either in the morning or afternoon. Classes generally last 2 hours and span a two to six week period.

Classes are offered in American political history, American history, Jewish history, religion, music, genealogy and meteorology. The board of directors for the KACL consists of volunteers with many of them teaching courses for the program. The membership fee of $45 covers unlimited class admission though you will need to purchase your own textbooks and supplies.

Kingsport City/Sullivan County GED Program

If you are interested in obtaining your GED, consider looking into the GED program offered by the Kingsport City/Sullivan County Adult Education Program. This program offers students both day and night classes through the Regional Center for Applied Technology and is specifically designed to help students achieve success with GED testing. The Kingsport Center for Higher Education

The Kingsport Center for Higher Education offers a wide variety of courses and programs to students of all ages. This education center has partnered with five institutions that offer adult education programs; King University, Lincoln Memorial, Northeast State Community College, Milligan College and Tusculum College. Different programs are offered at each institution and include the following, though all programs may not be available in the Kingsport, TN area at all times. King University

King University offers two adult education graduate programs. These programs consist of a Master of Business Administration for Professionals, which is a 16-month program consisting of both online and on-campus classwork, and a Master of Science in Nursing program which is designed to prepare you for leadership or a doctoral degree in the nursing field.

Lincoln Memorial University

LMU has a few different adult education degree programs to choose from for the Kingsport, TN area. These programs are Master of Education in Initial Teacher Licensure, Master of Education, Education Specialist and Master of Science in Nursing. The MEd program is fast-tracked and specifically designed for adults who are working toward a change in their careers while the Education Specialist program meets on the weekends and in the summer to allow more flexibility. The Master of Science in Nursing program allows students to specialize as a family nurse practitioner, nurse anesthetist or family psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner.

Milligan College

Milligan College offers adult degree completion opportunities in business administration, child and youth development, computer information systems and nursing. These programs are designed for adults who have busy schedules and often need to go at their own pace. Adults may find it easier to complete these programs by having access to online classes or evening classes, flexible scheduling of courses over a specific period and more affordable tuition.

Tusculum College

Adult education programs at Tusculum College are offered in teaching, licensure, curriculum and instruction and human resource development in the field of education. Programs are also offered in business administration, management and psychology. These programs are designed to easily accommodate working adults who wish to take the next step in their education.

Northeast State Community College

Northeast State Community College has an evening and distance education division specifically for adults seeking higher education. These programs offer classes that are in the evening, off-campus, online, on the weekends and through interactive television (ITV), allowing adults to choose courses and programs that fit their specific schedules and needs.
