Assessments under the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) umbrella are administered to prospective teachers who wish to work in the state of Florida. These exams assess candidates' general knowledge as well as their teaching expertise in a given subject area and grade level.
FTCE General Knowledge (GK) Test
The FTCE GK test gauges a teacher's overall grasp of key subject areas, and passing scores are generally required to gain admission to teacher education programs at Florida colleges and universities. The test consists of four subtests, each of which focuses on a specific subject:
- English Language Skills (ELS)
The ELS and Reading subtests consist of 40 multiple-choice questions, while the mathematics subtest contains 45 questions, all multiple-choice.
