MBLEx Exam: Preparing for Test Day
Passing the MBLEx exam is one of the primary components of successfully achieving a license in massage therapy, as many states either accept or require that students submit their results from this exam when seeking licensure. Because of the critical nature of this test, aspiring massage therapists will likely want to do everything they can to ensure that they pass the MBLEx. This includes familiarizing themselves with the content and structure of the exam, studying, and knowing details about what will happen on test day itself.
MBLEx Exam Format
In terms of format, the MBLEx is comprised of 100 questions which are split among seven different content areas. These content areas are anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, client assessment and treatment, ethics and laws, guidelines for professional practice, benefits and effects of techniques, and pathology with contraindications and special populations.
Between 10 and 18 questions on the exam are taken from each area. Students have a total of two hours to complete the test and will receive either a pass or fail result. Students who fail the exam will be able to see a breakdown of their performance in each of the seven content areas in order to be able to focus their study efforts in the future.
Studying for the MBLEx
In order to properly prepare for test day, students may be interested in learning how they can study for the MBLEx. Some may choose to study for the exam independently without the aid of a test prep course. They could potentially do this by using the resources they obtained while enrolled in massage therapy school, like text books and lecture notes.
However, given that the MBLEx specifically focuses on certain content areas, using some type of test prep material designed specifically for the MBLEX may be a more effective way of studying. The Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB), the organization that administers the MBLEx, provides a study guide for purchase that includes a 100-question practice test that students can use to test their skills and prepare for the actual exam.
A number of other companies and organizations also provide test prep materials for the MBLEx, including Study.com. Our course, MBLEx Test: Practice and Study Guide, provides students with 12 chapters of content that covers information about the exam itself as well as detailed overviews of all the content areas that appear on the test. Additionally, students can make use of the website's flashcards and study materials to review and master the material before the test. The course also includes a variety of practice tests and quizzes, with over 360 practice questions students can use to assess their strengths and weaknesses.
For individuals who are interested in learning about other ways of preparing for test day, they could compare the test prep options that are offered by other companies. Study.com also provides a helpful comparison chart of some various MBLEx test prep options. These options vary in price, delivery method, and features so students can assess which option makes the most sense for them.
