Three Rivers Community College

Three Rivers Community College's Office of Workforce and Community Education offers professional certificate programs and development courses for adults in a variety of career-related subjects, along with senior programs to encourage lifelong learning.

Professional Courses and Certificate Programs

Adults wishing to improve their job skills or train for a new career may take individual courses or enroll in a professional certificate program at Three Rivers Community College. Offerings include:

Adventures in Lifelong Learning (A.L.L.)

A.L.L. offers classes and field trips for adults who are 50 and older. There are no academic prerequisites for those who would like to participate in A.L.L. programs, and most courses are held at Three Rivers Community College. Classes are held during the fall and spring semesters and include academic and entertainment subjects ranging from cinema and art to history and politics.

GED Preparation

Intensive GED prep classes are offered by Norwich Adult Education, which is a part of Norwich Public Schools. GED prep classes, which are provided at no charge, consist of classroom instruction that covers all sections of the GED test. Classes are available both afternoons and evenings throughout the fall and spring semesters.

Adult Basic Education

Adults who want to improve their basic academic skills may take ABE classes, which cover math, writing and reading. These classes, offered in the afternoon on Mondays through Thursdays during the fall and spring semesters, are designed to help adults both improve their workforce skills and ready themselves to enroll in a high school diploma program or its equivalent.

Adult High School Credit Diploma Program

Adults who have previously earned credits but have not graduated from high school may transfer those credits and pursue a diploma by taking courses through Norwich Adult Education's Adult High School Credit Diploma program. Adults must have a total of 21 credits, including two or more credits taken at Norwich Adult Education, to receive a Norwich Adult Education diploma. Military or job experience, along with special skills and independent projects may also qualify for credits toward a diploma. Courses within this program are offered both afternoons and evenings.

Citizenship Preparation

For adults who want to become U.S. citizens, Norwich Adult Education provides afternoon and evening citizenship prep classes. These classes include instruction regarding civic responsibility, U.S. history and government, along with coaching and practice questions designed to help adults through the U.S. citizenship application, examination, and interview requirements.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

English language learning adults at the beginner through advanced levels may take ESOL classes at Norwich Adult Education. These aim to help adults improve their English reading, speaking, listening and writing skills, and focus on how these skills apply to work and personal life within American culture.

National External Diploma Program (NEDP)

NEDP allows adults to earn a high school diploma by demonstrating high school level competencies gained on the job or through other life experiences. This program is largely completed independently online, with participants regularly meeting privately with advisors.
