Where and When You Can Take NYSTCE Tests
If you're preparing for New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE), you'll find that test availability will vary depending on which exams you need to take.
The Educating All Students test and many content specialty tests are offered continuously, so you can sign up for a testing appointment year-round.
Other exams are offered in blocks of time called testing windows. The testing windows are typically around three weeks in length and occur three or four times a year. A person's test window determines the cut-off date for scheduling a testing appointment. Exams with this limited administration include foreign language and special education tests.
Regardless of when your test is offered, you can take NYSTCE exams at Pearson VUE sites located throughout New York and, in some cases, nationwide. Resources for finding these test locations and selecting an exam date are profiled below.
Locating Test Sites
Continuously administered NYSTCE tests are offered at all Pearson VUE sites. To find out where the closest test site is, you can go to your test's information page on the NYSTCE website. This page has a link to the app for finding test centers. Clicking on the link will redirect you to the Pearson VUE website. Input a zip code, town name or a street address to find out where Pearson VUE test sites are located in your area.
Limited Test Sites
Some tests, such as the Latin exam and other tests administered during testing windows, can't be taken at all test sites. These tests' web pages include a bulletin that identifies the New York locations where you can take those exams.
Identifying Test Times
The Pearson VUE site also features a seat availability tool, which is useful for finding test times. To determine when it is possible to take your exam, you must select the exam and then provide a location by entering a zip code, street address or the name of your city. Once you are presented with a list of possible test sites, you can choose up to three testing locations.
The app will then let you see calendars for each of the chosen test sites. The calendars will indicate which days have test space available, and when you select a possible test date you can see the start time options. Reviewing test time information on this app only allows you to see if there is currently space available at specific test sites. It does not reserve space for any test-taker; you must log on to your user account on the NYSTCE website and schedule your exam to secure a spot on a specific date.
