NYSTCE Test Dates

If you're getting ready to sit for an NYSTCE exam, the availability of testing appointments will depend on the type of test you need to take. Read on for more information about when tests are offered and how to sign up for these exams.

NYSTCE Test Dates

The majority of exams in the New York State Teachers Certification Examinations (NYSTCE) series are offered throughout the year by appointment. Tests are administered Monday through Saturday, except for holidays.

Some tests, however, are only administered during testing windows that last anywhere from ten days to just under a month. The duration and frequency with which the testing windows occur varies by exam type, though tests are typically administered 4-6 times a year. These tests include:

  • School leadership assessments
  • Foreign language, ASL and Latin tests
  • Bilingual education assessments
  • Family and consumer sciences, blind and visually impaired, dance, and agriculture content tests

You can find the exact dates for these types of exams on the NYSTCE website.

NYSTCE Registration

The NYSTCE registration process must be completed online. To get started, visit the NYSTCE website and create an account. You'll only need to provide standard personal information, such as your name and address, in order to create an account. If this is not your first time taking an exam and you still have access to the account you previously used, you may use this profile instead of starting a new one.

Starting an account will give you full access to the site and most importantly, the registration page, where you can pay for and schedule a test after choosing which NYSTCE exam you wish to take. Should you need to cancel or reschedule a test, you can complete these tasks on the same site.

Once your appointment is scheduled, you will receive a confirmation email from Pearson VUE. This email serves as proof of registration and also contains important reminders about your test date and location.

Registration Deadlines

There are few registration deadlines for NYSTCE exams. However, if you plan on taking certain foreign language tests or bilingual education assessments, you will need to schedule a test date at least two days before a testing window begins.

NYSTCE Score Reporting

Once you've completed your test, you'll need to wait a little while to receive your scores. The exact release date varies from one NYSTCE exam to another, but candidates taking continuously administered tests generally need to wait anywhere from two to eight weeks to find out how they did. Scores for limited administration tests are released about three weeks after a testing window closes.

You have two options when it comes to receiving your scores. You can have your scores sent to you by email, or you can access your NYSTCE account and download them yourself. Score delivery method does not impact release; all scores are released on the same day, regardless of delivery method.

If you choose to download your scores, be aware that results will remain on the site for two years only, after which point they will be taken down. Be sure to save a copy for long-term use when you first access your scores.
