A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification validates your experience as a project manager and is considered the gold standard of project management certifications. Learn about the various costs and fees associated with obtaining your PMP certification.

PMP Certification Exam Costs and Fees

To earn your credential as a Project Management Professional (PMP), you'll have to pass the certification exam. The exam is priced differently, depending on your membership status with the Project Management Institute (PMI), and the format of the test, such as a computer-based or paper-based exam. For members of PMI, the computer-based exam costs $405, and for non-members the price is $555. For members of PMI, the paper-based exam is priced at $250 and for non-members the cost is $400. The availability of the computer-based test versus the paper-based exam depends on your geographic location.

Becoming a member of the Project Management Institute may be a good option if you're planning a career in project management. Members receive discounts and/or complimentary access to PMI resources, including courses and exams. PMI offers several different membership options for professionals, full-time students and retirees.

Exam Refunds and Cancellation Fees

You can reschedule or cancel your PMP examination, but there may be some costs involved with these procedures. There is no fee charged if you cancel or reschedule your PMP exam appointment more than 30 days before the scheduled exam date. If you reschedule or cancel your exam within 30 days of your appointment, you will be charged a $70 fee. If there is an emergency situation that will prevent you from taking the exam within 30 days of your appointment, an Extenuating Circumstance Policy may apply. However, PMI determines whether you will receive a full refund or be charged the $70 fee on a case-by-case basis. If you realize that you cannot take the exam within 2 days of your appointment, you will be unable to reschedule the exam but you can cancel your appointment. In this situation, will be charged the entire cost of the exam.
