Praxis Tests in Arkansas

Arkansas Praxis Tests

To become a licensed teacher in Arkansas, you'll need to meet education requirements (which include completing a approved bachelor's degree program and an approved teacher preparation program) and pass three types of Praxis tests that assess basic skills, pedagogy, and content knowledge.

In Arkansas, your first Praxis exams will be the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) tests in reading, writing and mathematics. Passing scores on these basic skills tests are required in order to begin a teacher preparation program. Teacher candidates also usually need to take a pedagogy exam, typically one of the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) exams along with the Praxis Subject Assessments that deal with their licensure area. We'll examine these tests in more detail below.

Basic Skills Assessment for Praxis in Arkansas

Firstly, to measure basic skills, a candidate will complete the Core tests. There are currently two different versions of these tests available. The required passing scores differ by individual education providers. See the details for both below:

Special Education

For candidates becoming licensed for the first time, a PLT pedagogy exam is required. However, if you are already licensed and adding an endorsement, another PLT is not necessary.

Praxis Testing Centers in Arkansas

You can register for the Praxis exams online, through the Educational Testing Service website (ets.org). You will need to sign up for an account and provide contact information before you can register. During the registration process you will need to select your testing center and pick your testing window. The Arkansas Department of Education will automatically receive your scores if you test at a qualified in-state location. If you take any of your Praxis exams out-of-state, you'll have to select Arkansas as a score recipient with the state code 7031.
