Licensure and Praxis Tests for Ohio Educators
In Ohio, most people seeking initial teacher licensure, as well as established teachers adding a licensure area, take the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) exams. Most licensure area and grade level exams require one pedagogical assessment and one or more content assessments. Plus, the Foundations of Reading exam is required for elementary and middle school educators as well as special and gifted education teachers.
However, only a few school professionals are required to take the Praxis Subject Assessments. These include pupil services professionals: school audiologists, school psychologists and school speech-language pathologists. The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) also accepts a Praxis II to meet the state's Third Grade Reading Guarantee teacher requirements.
