Texas Real Estate Exam Cost

Cost of the Texas Real Estate Exam

As with virtually every other state in the nation, Texas requires real estate sales people to obtain a license. Real estate licenses are issued by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC), and passing an exam is just one of several requirements that must be met in order to legally sell real estate within Texas borders. The cost of TREC exam itself is $54; however, there are other additional fees to consider when registering for this exam that bring the total cost to around $345.

Additional Costs for Taking the Texas Real Estate Exam

During the registration process, there are several other costs you'll encounter related to taking the TREC exam. First, you'll need to complete and submit an Application for Inactive Real Estate Sales Agent License; this must be completed and accepted before you are eligible to sit for the TREC exam. This application must be completed by anyone who has never been licensed before in the state of Texas and costs about $225. Here is a breakdown of all fees associated with the application for the real estate sales agent license:

TX Real Estate License Application Fees
TREC Application Fee $150.00
Texas Online Fee $5.00
Recovery Fund Fee $10.00
Real Estate Center at TX A&M $40.00
Paper Filing Fee $20.00 (can be avoided by filing online)

In addition to the license application fees, you'll also be required to submit fingerprints and a background check as part of the application process. The fingerprint fee is $38.25 and the background check is $28.25. The background check fee must be included with your submitted license application, while the fingerprint fee will be paid to a third party vendor.

After you have completed your application and background/fingerprint checks and met all the education requirements, you'll be able to register for the TREC license exam. You will register directly with the provider, Pearson VUE, and pay the $54 exam fee at that time. On test day, you'll have four hours to complete the 125 test questions.
