The TExES Core Subjects 4-8 assessment is held on numerous dates throughout the year. Keep reading to find out when you can take this test and for instructions on the registration process for this particular assessment.

TExES Core Subjects 4-8 Test Dates

Unlike many standardized tests, most TExES examinations (including the Core Subjects 4-8) are held on a continuous basis. Candidates have the freedom and flexibility to sit for the test at the time of their choosing, to an extent. Potential dates are still dependent on the testing site and will vary in availability.

Candidates will have the opportunity to choose their test date during the scheduling process.

TExES Registration Process

Signing up for the TExES Core Subjects 4-8 assessment is a simple process. Although this test is offered on a continuous basis, you should register as soon as possible because spots may fill up quickly.

To register online, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Create a Pearson Account

Prior to September 1, 2018, exams in the TExES series were proctored by the Educational Testing Service or ETS. Now, they are administered by Pearson-VUE, so before registering for a test, you'll need to create a new account with Pearson. To do so, you'll need to provide a valid and permanent email address which will also serve as your username. You'll also create a password and choose a security question that will help you recover your password in case you lose it.

You will also need to provide your TEA number, which you should have received when you created your Texas Education Agency account. Note that this new setup only applies to the ETS and registering for exams; your TEA account is unchanged.

Step 2: Get Registered

Once you have generated a Pearson account, you'll have access to the entire registration process.

To officially begin the registration process, go to the new TExES website (at and sign into your account. Before proceeding, it is recommended that you review the information/policies for your exam and check for seating availability, which you may do any time. When you're ready to go, select Register from the main page menu and click the Register Now button.

Step 3: Accommodations, Score Reporting and Payment

During the registration process, you may request alternative testing arrangements if you require these for a documented disability. Note that all Pearson-VUE testing centers already offer certain accommodations without the need for prior approval. These include wheelchair access, access to certain visual aids for computer-based testing (such as enlarged text), most medical and comfort aids, mobility devices, and breaks to take medication or use an inhaler, etc.

Next, you'll be asked to answer two questions regarding your first language and best language of communication. Your answers here will have no bearing on your score and are not recorded in your profile; they will be used by Pearson for evaluating test questions. You'll also be given the option to receive your score report by email; scores will also appear in your Pearson account at 10 PM (CT) on the score report date.

After you have completed these sections, you will receive your total fees and enter your payment information. The fee for the Core Subjects 4-8 exam is $116, or $58 per subtest. Afterwards, you'll be given 170 days to schedule your test.

Step 4: Schedule a Test

Now it's time to determine your testing date, time and location.

First, you'll need to confirm which test you would like to take. Note that if you registered for two exams, you may opt to schedule back-to-back appointments on the same day. When scheduling your test, first provide your location and a specific test date. Once you do this, you'll be shown a list of all Pearson testing centers near your location, plus whether or not there are any appointments available on the day you have specified; pick the combination that is most convenient for you.

Step 5: Finalize and Review

You will then be given the chance to review your selection. Be sure to double-check this page and confirm that you have chosen the correct date, time, and location.

Step 6: Confirm & Submit

After a final review and agreeing to Pearson's testing policies, you may submit your appointment order, officially scheduling your exam. Admission tickets are no longer required for TExES exams, but you will receive an email that will confirm your appointment details. This email is just for reference purposes and does not need to be shown at the testing center.
