Test Dates for the TExES Music EC-12

As is the case with most tests that fall under the TExES umbrella, the Music EC-12 exam is available on a rolling basis. TExES exams allow students to pick and choose the dates that work best for them from a list of possible options.

In order to officially select your test date, you'll need to go through the registration process.

Exam Registration

The music assessment (and all other TExES exams) feature a convenient online registration process.

Though tests are offered on a continuous basis, you should consider signing up as soon as you're sure you want to take the exam because spots may fill up before the deadline. Waiting too long may cause you to miss out, and you'll have to schedule your test for a later date.

The registration process is a straightforward one, and the steps are laid out in the list below.

Step 1: Create a Pearson Account

As of September, 2018, the Educational Testing Service is no longer used for TExES registration. Pearson Education is the new TExES administrator, handling test registration and scheduling on the official website at tx.nesinc.com. This website now serves as your portal for everything TExES-related, including all the information you would formerly find in the ETS Registration Bulletins.

To access or create a Pearson account, visit the website and locate the hyperlink labelled ''My Account'' in the upper right corner. From here, you can log in or make a new account if you haven't already done so. Make sure to use a permanent email address and select a strong password, plus a security question that you will remember in case you need to recover a lost password. You will also need to provide a TEA ID number. If you are a PACT or Charter School candidate and do not have a TEA ID number, you will be need to provide your personal information.

Step 2: Get Started

Before you begin the registration process, it's a good idea to check out the current status of the TExES Music EC-12 test. From the TExEs homepage, click the link labelled ''Exams'' and find the Music EC-12 page on the list. From here, you can learn more about what the test is like, current fees and scoring breakdowns, plus any important notices regarding testing or registration. You can also use Pearson's seat availability tool to locate a testing center and check for open appointments; you may do this any time, but it's recommended that you do so before you begin registration.

When you're ready to begin, navigate to the bottom of this page and click the button that says ''Register Now''.

Step 3: Register and Pay

Follow the easy, step-by-step instructions to set up your test registration. Here, you may request alternative testing arrangements if you need extra support for a disability. You may also specify whether you would prefer to have your scores emailed to you on the score report date.

At the end, you will be asked to enter your payment information. Note that to pay for a TExES exam, you must have a debit, bank or credit card with a Visa or MasterCard logo on it. Cash and checks are no longer valid methods of payment. The current fee for the TExES Music EC-12 exam is $116 (plus additional processing fees).

Afterwards, you'll have 170 days to schedule your exam appointment, which you may also do through your Pearson account.

Step 4: Schedule an Appointment

Ready to schedule or reschedule your test? Log in to your Pearson account and find the link labeled ''Schedule or Reschedule''. Here, you can find convenient testing centers and open appointments by entering a desired location and testing date. Select the location and appointment that work best for you and check out. You have already paid for your exam during registration, so there are no fees in this step.

Note: If you are opting in for alternative testing arrangements, do not schedule your appointment until your request has been approved and you have received scheduling instructions from Pearson.

Step 5: Confirm

One last time, you'll be shown all information and asked to ensure its accuracy. After making sure that everything is in order, and after agreeing to Pearson's testing policies and rules, you can officially submit your appointment request.

You will soon receive an email that confirms your registration and scheduling information. This is for your personal reference only, as you no longer have to bring an Admission Ticket to the testing center. You can also review this information any time in your Pearson account.

If you need to reschedule your exam, you can do this for free for up to 48 hours before the appointment. Simply log into your account and follow the same directions in Step 4.
