Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA) Test Fees

Individuals who need to take the VCLA test are required to pay a $50 registration fee that is non-refundable when they register for their test or subtest.

There are two subtests. Taken separately, the fee is $40 per subtest. If the two subtests are taken together, the fee is $80 in total. This means there is no test fee discount if both subtests are taken at the same time.

How To Pay

Individuals who are registering to take the VCLA exam have these payment options:

  • Check card with a VISA or MasterCard logo
  • Credit card with a VISA or MasterCard logo
  • Debit card with a VISA or MasterCard logo
  • Voucher

Anyone using these payment methods can make their payment online through their VCLA account.

Paying By Check

If a prospective test-taker does not have one of the approved payment methods as an option, then they can make arrangements to pay by check. They must contact Evaluation Services directly to get information on the check payment process.

Refunds

Individuals who withdraw from a test may be eligible to receive a refund for their test fees. It can take up to 4 weeks to receive a refund.

Individuals Who Have Registered But Not Scheduled

Those who have registered only but not scheduled only need to submit a withdrawal request. This can be done online through the person's VCLA account.

Individuals Who Have Registered and Scheduled

Those who have scheduled their test must first log on to their account, opt to reschedule and then cancel their booked test time. Once they have done this, they can submit the withdrawal request. They must have canceled their scheduled test time a minimum of 24 hours before their scheduled test time, or they will not be eligible for a refund.

Individuals Who Registered For Both Subtests Together

If a person booked both subtests at the same time, then they must withdraw from both subtests. They cannot withdraw from one subtest only.

Individuals With Multiple Subtest Registrations

Anyone who receives a passing score on a subtest and wishes to cancel subsequent registrations they already made for the same subtest may do so, but they will not receive a refund. It is a good idea to wait until you have your test results from your VCLA exam or subtest before registering to take the exam or subtest again.

Fee Expiration

The testing fees paid are valid for up to 1 full calendar year. This means that individuals who cannot take their test by the end of that calendar year must withdraw from the test to receive a refund. Failure to withdraw from the test or take the test within the calendar year from payment means that the individual will forfeit their test fees.

Payment Policies

Individuals may not have their test scores released if they have a balance due after taking their test. In the event that a person owes money, they will be barred from registering for subsequent tests and they must pay a processing fee of $20 to bring their account into good standing.
