WEST-E Test Scores

Scores Required on the WEST-E Tests

The Washington Educator Skills Test - Endorsement, also referred to as WEST-E, ensures that teachers have sufficient knowledge of the subjects they are planning to teach. A passing score of 240 or more must be earned on these tests in order to receive teacher certification in the state of Washington. This passing score requirement also applies to exams with multiple subtests - a 240 must be earned on each one.

Scoring System

WEST tests use a scaled scoring system that ranges between 100 and 300 points. Every test-taker's results are compared to a predetermined passing standard developed through consultation with qualified educators in Washington State. Professionals also help determine how much emphasis to give to different content areas on the exams.

Score Reports

For all WEST-E exams, with the exception of the computer science and Latin tests, individuals receive preliminary results right after they finish taking their tests. Test-takers also receive official score reports at a later date. These indicate a test-taker's performance in each content domain by awarding between 1 and 4 plus (+) signs. The higher the number of + signs, the better a person did. Individuals receiving +++ or ++++ performed adequately or did very well on those parts of the test. Receiving + or ++ means an individual performed poorly. This system of assessing performance is used for both multiple-choice and constructed-response questions.

Score Report Dates for the WEST Computer Science Test

The computer science test has a constructed-response component, and testing appointments are only available during 7 test administration windows. Scores for these tests are released about 3-4 weeks after a testing window closes.

This means that individuals typically waited anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks to find out if they passed or failed.

Individuals who took the test between March 19 and April 15, 2018 got results on April 27, 2018. This means that the typical waiting period for test results for the WEST-E Designated World Languages: Latin test is between 2 and 5 weeks.

Score Report Dates for All Remaining WEST-E Tests

Who Receives Test Scores?

Test scores are sent to the person who took the test and the certification office so that examinees who pass and fulfill all certification requirements will receive their teacher certification. Individuals can also opt to have a postsecondary institution receive their test scores directly. They have this option when they register. This is a good option to choose if passing WEST-E tests is required to graduate.

What If You Question Your Score?

It is possible to pay a $50 fee to have your test scores verified. This does not apply to multiple-choice questions. It only applies to constructed-response answers on WEST-E tests for computer science and Latin. If an individual applies for score verification, their constructed-response answers will be reviewed.
