The Center for Deployment Psychology

The Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) is an organization that provides training to behavioral health professionals who serve in the military. It also offers continuing education services to civilian behavioral health professionals. The CDP was set up in 2006 by the Department of Defense to meet the needs of past and present military service members and their families.

Military Behavioral Health Training

The CDP offers in-person workshops to military behavioral health providers. These training opportunities are offered around the country, with multiple dates every month, and can include 2- to 3-day workshops as well as 5-day training sessions. Online training is offered as well. Topics of instruction in these program can include:

  • Cognitive processing therapy
  • Deployment psychology
  • Impacts of combat stress
  • Sleep disturbances therapy
  • Suicide prevention
  • Brain injury treatment techniques
  • PTSD therapy

Civilian Behavioral Health Training

Civilian behavioral health providers can complete 1-week training courses that are offered 4 times annually. These programs deal with military culture, stressors associated with deployment, traumatic brain injuries, substance abuse, depression, suicidal behavior and sexual assault in the military.

Civilian behavioral health professionals can also enroll in short online courses covering these subjects or take on a more in-depth course of study through two certificate programs. One is offered entirely online, while the other is a campus-based post-master's certificate program offered in conjunction with Widener University.
