Late Fees for the SAT

Both the late fee and the waitlist fees are in addition to the standard registration fee required to take the SAT.

Deadlines for Registration

The deadline to register to take the SAT is approximately one month prior to the exam date. After that date, you'll have two additional opportunities to register for the exam:

  • Late registration period
    • Deadline to register late is two weeks before the exam
  • Waitlist status period
    • Deadline to join the waitlist is five days before the exam.

Subject Test and Change Fees

Fees for SAT subject tests are $26 for registration and between $21 and $26 per exam. You can take up to three subject tests per registration date. Fee waivers are available for students who meet need-based criteria.

Students who've registered for an SAT exam, but are unable to make the date after registering, can pay a fee to change the date, location, or type of test up until the actual test day. This fee is $29. Partial refunds may be available for cancellations more than five days prior to the test date.

SAT Registration Information

Students in the U.S. can take the test on one of seven dates and international students can choose from six test dates, between October and June. Registration is handled primarily online. To register, students need to:

  • Create an account with the College Board
  • Provide appropriate personal information
  • Upload a recent photo
  • Select the test dates and locations of their choice
  • Pay the registration fee and any late fees
  • Receive confirmation
  • Print an admission ticket

Students in special circumstances, such as those paying by check or requesting alternate testing dates or places, must register by mail.
