About This Chapter

If you need a quick reminder about the quadratic formula, go through these video lessons to get yourself ready for the CEOE Advanced Mathematics Test. Pick the lessons you need, or binge watch every lesson for an extended study session.

CEOE Advanced Math: Quadratic Functions - Chapter Summary

Although understanding quadratic functions might be foundational knowledge in algebra, it never hurts to go through the basics, particularly right before taking the CEOE Advanced Mathematics Test. Our instructors have designed engaging lessons that go over the quadratic formula as well as the steps for completing the square and solving problems via factoring. Other major topics covered in this chapter include:

  • The multiplication property of zero
  • The reverse process of FOIL
  • Completing a square after finding it, and working out practice problems
  • Complex number solutions and quadratic equations
  • Quadratic inequalities on graphs
  • The uses and applications of quadratic functions

If you're uncertain about using our materials, consider the perks we offer you, including a mobile-friendly site that can be accessed day or night from any location that gets Wi-Fi. In other words, you can study about quadratic functions and anything else related to the CEOE Advanced Mathematics Test no matter where you are - on a bus, at a coffee shop, in your backyard - anywhere. We also have lessons designed to support all sorts of learners. Audio/visual learners tend to enjoy our fun and informative video lessons, and we also have transcripts with highlighted key terms. Our assessment tools, including chapter exams and lesson quizzes, also provide unique training that you can't get from your typical study guide.

CEOE Advanced Math: Quadratic Functions Chapter Objectives

As part of the teacher certification program in Oklahoma, the CEOE Advanced Mathematics Test consists of five key areas designed to measure your breadth of knowledge in this field. You will have a time limit of 240 minutes, and in that time you must select your answers to 80 questions and construct your own response for one question. At almost 30% of the entire test, the largest section will ask questions related to algebra topics, including quadratic functions. The materials found in the video lessons for this chapter will provide you with guidance to help you recall the functions of these types of polynomials as well as steps for solving quadratic equations.

How to Use the Quadratic Formula to Solve a Quadratic Equation

1. How to Use the Quadratic Formula to Solve a Quadratic Equation

When solving a quadratic equation by factoring doesn't work, the quadratic formula is here to save the day. Learn what it is and how to use it in this lesson.

Solving Quadratics: Assigning the Greatest Common Factor and Multiplication Property of Zero

2. Solving Quadratics: Assigning the Greatest Common Factor and Multiplication Property of Zero

When it comes to solving quadratics, we have at our disposal several methods. Watch this video lesson to learn one such method you can use to solve quadratics that don't have a constant term.

How to Factor Quadratic Equations: FOIL in Reverse

3. How to Factor Quadratic Equations: FOIL in Reverse

So, you know how to multiply binomials with the FOIL method, but can you do it backwards? That's exactly what factoring is, and it can be pretty tricky. Check out this lesson to learn a method that will allow you to factor quadratic trinomials with a leading coefficient of 1.

Factoring Quadratic Equations: Polynomial Problems with a Non-1 Leading Coefficient

4. Factoring Quadratic Equations: Polynomial Problems with a Non-1 Leading Coefficient

Once you get good at factoring quadratics with 1x squared in the front of the expression, it's time to try ones with numbers other than 1. It will be the same general idea, but there are a few extra steps to learn. Do that here!

How to Complete the Square

5. How to Complete the Square

Completing the square can help you learn where the maximum or minimum of a parabola is. If you're running a business and trying to make some money, it might be a good idea to know how to do this! Find out what I'm talking about here.

Completing the Square Practice Problems

6. Completing the Square Practice Problems

Completing the square is one of the most confusing things you'll be asked to do in an algebra class. Once you get the general idea, it's best to get in there and actually do a few practice problems to make sure you understand the process. Do that here!

How to Solve a Quadratic Equation by Factoring

7. How to Solve a Quadratic Equation by Factoring

If your favorite video game, 'Furious Fowls,' gave you the quadratic equation for each shot you made, would you be able to solve the equation to make sure every one hit its target? If not, you will after watching this video!

How to Solve Quadratics with Complex Numbers as the Solution

8. How to Solve Quadratics with Complex Numbers as the Solution

When you solve a quadratic equation with the quadratic formula and get a negative on the inside of the square root, what do you do? The short answer is that you use an imaginary number. For the longer, more helpful answer, check out this lesson!

Graphing & Solving Quadratic Inequalities: Examples & Process

9. Graphing & Solving Quadratic Inequalities: Examples & Process

When you finish watching this video lesson, you will be able to graph and solve your own quadratic inequality. Learn what steps you need to take and what to watch for.

Graphing a System of Quadratic Inequalities: Examples & Process

10. Graphing a System of Quadratic Inequalities: Examples & Process

What is a system of quadratic inequalities? What are the steps to graphing them? Find the answers to these questions by watching this video lesson. When you finish, you will be able to graph these yourself.
